Licensing and activations
How many machines one license covers, the difference between Personal and Business licenses, and how to move your license to a new computer.
How many computers does one license cover?
A Personal license gives you the right to use the software on a single computer or workstation at a time. You cannot install and use a Personal license on more than one operating system at once. If you need the software on several machines, choose a Business (multi-seat) license instead.
For the full comparison of what each license type includes, see license types and upgrade policy.
What one license covers
Licenses are tied to a specific product, not to your account in general:
- Each product is built around a database pair (for example MS Access & MySQL, or PostgreSQL & SQL Server) and works in both directions - your key is not limited to a single source-to-target direction.
- Products built around an engine such as MySQL or PostgreSQL also connect to that engine's managed-cloud equivalents (for example managed MySQL or PostgreSQL on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), so the same license covers on-premise and cloud instances of that engine.
- DBConvert (converters) and DBSync (synchronizers) are separate products and need separate licenses.
- DBConvert Studio bundles conversion and synchronization for many database pairs in a single product with a single license.
Not sure which one you have or need? See DBConvert vs DBSync vs DBConvert Studio.
Moving your license to a new computer
Because a Personal license is valid for one machine at a time, the registration key stays bound to the computer where you registered it. If you install the software on a second machine and try to register, the key may be reported as already in use.
To move the license to a new computer, first release it on the old machine:
- On the old computer, uninstall the DBConvert / DBSync / DBConvert Studio program.
- Remove the saved RegCode registration entry from the Windows Registry. Follow the exact steps in Re-register with a new license (open
regedit, go toHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DMSoft Technologies, open your product folder, and delete only theRegCodevalue). - On the new computer, install the program from the downloads page and register it with the same license information.
If you have already wiped or disposed of the old computer (for example a factory reset before disposal), the registration data is gone with it and the key is free to use on the new machine - no extra step is needed.
If you can no longer access the old computer
There is no self-service unregister button inside the program. If the old machine is no longer available and the key still shows as in use, contact our support team with your registration details and we will sort it out.
